Introducing our latest Everyday ICON... Jesse James! A network technician, bodybuilder, musician, actor, and more! Jesse stays fueled by ICON Meals. Here's his story...
1) What do you do? (Job-wise)
I am a network technician, I manage SMB (small-medium businesses) and city/government networks.
2) What made you want to do what you are doing?
After my first year of college, I didn't like the field I was in (Architech) so I met with the advisor. She advised going into networking as it would be a field that would blow up in the 2000s.
3) Why Icon Meals? What makes us different?
I first heard about Icon Meals while competing in the NPC shows here in Texas. I would always eat a meal post-show as they had some good looking food. I loved that food so much I started ordering a few meals here and there and then finally contacted them about joining the team to help promote the brand.
4) What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
"The only person you can depend on to get yourself where you want to be is yourself"
5) You are a social media “influencer” what are you doing to be “influential” in today’s society?
I try to market to the men's health market, by showing ways to eat healthy, keep your body in shape, mind sharpened and activated (I'm also a bass player and actor). Also to show people that not everything has to be about taking gym selfies or workout videos. I also foster dogs with my wife and help find these dogs a forever home. The gym has given me discipline, this can be applied to every part of your life and I like to show how.
6) Who is your biggest inspiration? Why?
My 2 biggest inspirations are Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Rock. One came to the US with nothing, couldn't speak English, had a horrible accent (so it was said at the time) and no money to his name. He became a legend in the bodybuilding, acting, and political world. The other was poor (like my upbringing) and through blood, sweat, and tears became one of the most influential people in the world. He also is an amazing actor and bodybuilding ambassador. Both of these men have qualities that I admire and try to immolate, they inspire me to keep pushing for my dreams until they become reality.
7) How do you balance work and life demands?
My work is a typical 8 - 5 so with that being a static time slot it allows for me to fit my other activities on the weekend and after work. I usually get up before work to do fasted cardio and then go workout after work. If I need to fly to LA for a film, drive around Texas / US to tour with my band, my work allows me the flexibility to work with me on this. Other life demands get etched in between these activities as well, it is usually planned according to importance.
8) What do you want your legacy to be? How do you want to be remembered?
My legacy would be a guy who saved animals, loved fitness, acting, and played a mean bass guitar. I want to be remembered for a guy who tried it all and had no regrets. I would like to inspire people not in a selfish way (like look at what I did) but in a way that motives others to help themselves and their fellow man. What good is fame and fortune if you never helped anyone with it. The greatest gift you can give a person can't be bought.
9) What is your current focus? Any plans for the future?
My current focus is to just slim down as more and more movie roles require a more aesthetics look. I don't go crazy in the off season but I like to be personally leaner than I normally am. In the future I plan to compete on the NPC national stage again but for now my focus is on my acting and music career.
10) What are your favorite Icon Meals? Or a favorite thing about Icon Meals?
This is a hard one but I have to say the Kobe Beef Cheese Burger and the Chicken Cordon Bleau leave me wanting more every time I eat them! One of my favorite things about Icon Meals is they always take care of me. From meals to helping my brand with exposure, to just checking in every now and then to see how things are going.
Todd & Danny are also prime examples of owners who not only practice what they preach but are always looking for new ways to keep pushing the Icon brand. If you're the hardest worker in the room you need to find new friends, these guys push hard and it motivates me to keep grinding.
