Don't Take Action, Make Action by Ian Lauer

Don't Take Action, Make Action by Ian Lauer

Time and time again you have heard people say, “take action.” This advice meant to get you off your keister and on your way to achieving your goals. Though these words of wisdom are spouted with the most positive of intentions, they are repeated at nauseum and frequently leave us wanting. In the end, we are no closer to achieving our ambitions than we were before. Our enthusiasm fizzles and we are right back where we started.

Why is this? Is it because “take action” is said so frequently that it becomes white noise? Is it because you don’t know what action to take? Is it because what you think is the right action to take isn’t available when you’re geared up and ready to take it? Bear with me for just a moment longer on this train of thought. I want you to think back into your past and answer the next question honestly. Have you ever found yourself eager to take action only to see no opportunities available and when an opportunity finally does presents itself you are no longer charged and ready to grab life by the scruff? If you’re like me and many others, the answer is a resounding YES!

The question then becomes, “What do you do about it to get off your butt and strike while the iron and inspiration are hot?” I’ll tell you what you do, you change ONE LITTLE LETTER. You no longer say to yourself “Take action.” Instead, you tell yourself to “Make action!” “Semantics,” you say. “What can changing one little letter do for me?” That one little letter is the difference between charging forward and achieving your goals or spinning your wheels and finding yourself in the exact same position a year from now.

Can you guess why changing the phrase you tell yourself from “Take action” to “Make action” makes such a huge difference? Go on, think about it for a moment. Ok, I can’t wait any longer. I must tell you. It’s because when you “take” something, it has to be provided by SOMEONE ELSE. When you try to
“take” you’re at the mercy of someone else’s timeframe. When it’s finally there for the taking you’re no longer charged and ready to make the most of the opportunity. This is why you must MAKE ACTION.

When you “Make action” you are no longer waiting on someone else. You are in charge. You start the momentum rolling. You set the small goals and action steps in pursuit of your ambitions. There’s no waiting on someone to give you permission or provide an opportunity. Make action immediately. The size of the action is not as important as making it now. Do it while your inspiration level is high, and you will quickly find that formerly unavailable opportunities will naturally present themselves. What’s more is that they will appear to you either of your own doing or from outside. At that point it doesn’t matter because you are already underway, and these opportunities will meet you in stride adding to your self-created momentum.

I’ll leave you with this final thought. When we think of people in history of significant accomplishment, trailblazers like Washington, Lincoln, Franklin, Edison, and Ford come to mind. How did they accomplish so much? I can tell you without doubt these men didn’t Take the path of least resistance to achieve greatness. These men decided to Make a path where none previously existed.

What is it that you want to do that you’ve been putting off? Quit waiting. Start doing. Blaze your own trail. Make action today!

5 Tips For Better Sleep by Taeler De Haes

5 Tips For Better Sleep by Taeler De Haes

Struggle sleeping through the night? Or maybe, even getting to sleep is a challenge?

With so much emphasis on morning routines, I’ll be the first to say a bedtime routine is even more important to ensure great sleep.

You need around 7-9 hours of sleep a night. Any less than 6 and fat loss becomes harder, cravings increase and your brain feels foggy, leading to impulsive decisions, like running through the McDonald’s drive-thru instead of packing a wholesome breakfast.

Here’s how I turn my brain off and wind down for bed, starting an hour before I hit the pillow:

Set boundaries. Listen, I know how hard it is to see those email notifications pop up on Sunday night from your boss, but you are off the clock. Act like it. The same thing goes for families looking to spend a little more quality time together. Put your devices on the chargers an hour before bed, and don’t grab them until the morning. Tell your friends and family you’ll no longer be available ahead of time so they hold you accountable.

Put your phone away. The most important might be the hardest, especially if you are winding down, catching up on social media or sharing memes with your friends (we all do it). I like to set my phone on the charger an hour before bed to prevent blue light near bedtime. If you work late at night, I recommend buying blue light blockers.

Turn off the TV. I’m the first to admit I love watching Riverdale before going to bed, but reading or listening to a podcast will allow you to drift away from the “present” and relax.

Drink something warm. I find cozying up with a warm cup of tea or decaf coffee makes me feel nice and relaxed. This also helps with late night snacking. If you struggle with stress in the evening, I recommend taking Natural Calm, which is just magnesium, which helps keep cortisol levels under control.

Set yourself up for a calm start. My mornings start with 5:30 a.m. spin classes, bootcamps and personal training, so I don’t have time for a “routine”. I like to lay my clothes out the night before, get my supplements in order, Keurig on and ready so I can wake up, grab and go.

Taking the extra time to ensure a proper night’s sleep makes for a more productive tomorrow.

Wait! Read This Before Making New Year Resolutions! By Mike O'Hearn

Wait! Read This Before Making New Year Resolutions! By Mike O'Hearn

    A Clean Slate⁣

Today, at the very beginning of a brand new decade, is the perfect day to give yourself a clean slate…by cleaning out your kitchen. Take a look through your pantry, fridge, freezer and cupboards. Chances are high that you’ll find unhealthy packaged foods that are not in line with your healthy eating goals. Get rid of it all! ⁣
Give yourself an advantage by starting 2021 with a wholesome kitchen that’s free from temptations and pitfalls. ⁣

Did you accomplish your goals this past year? (YES or NO)

If “NO” then answer these 5 Questions for insight into your failure.

⁣

    1. Were your goals clearly written down and reviewed regularly?⁣⁣

If you’re ambiguous about what you are setting off to achieve then it will never culminate in anything concrete. By writing down your goals in specific, clear terms and reviewing them regularly, you’ll be on track to achieve huge things in 2021.⁣

    2. Did you use the SMART System for defining your goals?⁣⁣

SMART Is an acronym for setting achievable goals. It stands for SPECIFIC, MEASURABLE, ATTAINABLE, REALISTIC and TIME BOUND. Don’t skip over this step – setting SMART goals is the difference between achieving your dreams and having yet another year slide by without any measurable results to show for it. Use the SMART filter for setting goals — and REFLECT on and REVIEW your RESULTS with regularity.⁣

    3. Did your goals align with your values?⁣

If your goal was to lose weight and to finally achieve a lean, fit, healthy body then why did you continue to glorify greasy, unhealthy food? Why did you look at exercise as a punishment to be avoided? Your value system must line up with your goals. In fitness this means having a positive attitude about exercise and healthy eating. ⁣

    4. Did you create accountability around your goals?
⁣⁣

Who did you tell about your goal to finally lose the weight and get fit? If you kept it to yourself then you missed out on a huge opportunity for accountability and support. This support is what you lean on through the tough times when jumping off the wagon seems like the only option. ⁣

Take a moment to reflect on the answers to these questions above BEFORE answering the next question.

⁣

    5. What was the root cause of your failure?
⁣

I don’t know what your specific root cause of failure was, only you do, but I can tell you confidently that if you join my program in 2021 you will blow past your failure to achieve the success that has always alluded you.

You get one shot — one life — so what are you waiting for?⁣

It’s time to expand, grow, seek, achieve.

Feel the fire — fall down, get up, shake it off and get back in the game.

2021 has the potential of being the best year yet... but it starts right now.
